Spring Hops In
This afternoon I went over to the nature garden (one of three projects run by the organisation I work for) where I was greeted by a colleague who told me very excitedly that the frogs had arrived. This is brilliant news.…

I went to the Tate Modern this morning for a meeting about some work I’m doing there. Because it’s a massive building and I needed to do a fair bit of moving about I used one of their complimentary wheelchairs.
When we went to get a lift to the upper floors I noticed a large sign next to it that said:
“Celebrate your ability to use your legs and please give priority to those who need to use the lifts.”…
It’s half term, and the children’s projects I help run are buzzing. Most of the children are familiar with my tics and aren’t at all fazed by them. I’m very used to answering questions about Tourettes and have a set of responses which are almost automatic.…
This morning while Fran was helping me get ready for work I started ticcing about the skills my support workers have to have. It began to sound like a very unusual job description.

To most people Spartacus was just a famous historical figure, leader of a revolt of the slaves against the Roman republic, and hero of numerous film and TV dramas. To an ever-increasing number of people Spartacus now means the last chance to save Disability Living Allowance (DLA).…

But Schnitzel wasn’t at all impressed by me. She barked at me as I moved around erratically shouting “Biscuit,” and things got worse when I started barking back.…
Yesterday I got a call from Access to Work, the government scheme that funds my support worker at work. The scheme is crucial to making it possible for me to keep doing my job and I’ve had a support worker two days a week pretty much since I started there.…
Leftwing Idiot has made a big change to a room at the office where we work. It’s not because he’s suddenly developed a passion for interior design, but because I need somewhere safe to go when I’m having a ‘ticcing fit’.…
Yesterday afternoon London Mayor Boris Johnson visited one of the projects I work for to launch a new volunteering scheme. We have a big team of young volunteers who help run our go-kart track and we’ve got some funding from the Mayor’s office to extend this.…
