I had a long ‘ticcing fit’ in the early hours of this morning. It went on long enough for Bunny and me to watch the dawn creep slowly in. Shortly after the fit finished I saw the lamp-post turn itself off for the day.…

On my way home from the pub with Bunny last night I started telling her about a street we were passing. I described having walked down it in great detail, including the time of year, the weather, the smells and sounds – even the number of cats I’d seen en route!…

Last week I talked about my new “Rummage” tic. Catwings, who also has Tourettes, left a comment on the post saying:

‘A verb! This seems unusual to me as a frequent tic-word, most of my main ones are nouns like ‘fascists’ and ‘Marmite’…’

I’d never thought about the types of word that became tics before and I started to wrack my brain for other tics of mine that were nouns.…

At lunchtime Leftwing Idiot asked me a question, and I answered with a blink. This would have been un-remarkable if I’d been having a ‘ticcing fit’ because if I lose my speech while I’m having one I blink once for ‘Yes’ and twice for ‘No’.…

I don’t know what it is about ‘ticcing fits’ and dolphins but they surfaced again this evening. Last time, a few months ago, I started making their distinctive clicking noises, and tonight while I wriggled about I claimed to be one.…

I stayed at Leftwing Idiot’s last night. As I lay down to go to sleep I looked up at the sky out of his backroom window. In the spot where my old friend “Cartoon star” normally sits, there was an almost full moon.…

There are twenty days until Leftwing Idiot’s birthday and I’ve already bought his present. For most people this would be sensible forward planning. But for me, it’s a risky business.

Tourettes means I’m not very good at keeping secrets, and I’ve got an appalling track record for maintaining surprises as a result.…

I took the day off work today. It wasn’t because I was ill or had a relaxing holiday planned but because I wanted to be at a protest against the drastic cuts to disability and sickness benefits that are putting countless lives at risk.…

It’s taken some time but I’ve got myself a new regular tic. It comes out with a mischievous intonation in a slightly silly voice. Although I still say “Biscuit” a lot, my sentences are now punctuated with “Rummage” as well.

Anyone who’s ever been to a jumble sale will know what it means to have a good rummage, but for those unfamiliar with the concept, it describes an ‘unsystematic and untidy search through a mass or receptacle.’…

This evening is the opening ceremony of the 2012 Paralympics, which looks set to be an impressive and widely enjoyed celebration of disability sport. It’ll showcase incredible athletes and hopefully promote discussion of issues affecting disabled people amongst a wide audience – which is good because we need to be talking about disability.…
