I had a new carer this evening. She came from the agency that provides me with some of my support. She was friendly and kind and in the usual way, I took her through my care plan for when I have a ‘ticcing fit’.…

Yesterday you got my perspective on our weekend in Scotland. Here’s my co-adventurer, Ruth’s, take on it:

The weekend that almost never happened, happened – I’m so glad Touretteshero called me and gave me a gentle yet firm nudge in the right direction when I was thinking about not going.…

I’ve been looking forward to writing this entry and filling you in on my trip to Scotland to visit friends, many of whom also have Tourettes. It’s been one of the most amazing weekends I’ve had in ages.

It’s very late, and I’ve just got back to the castle after my weekend away in Scotland with Ruth and Claire. I’m exhausted so I’ll keep this entry simple.

Ruth and I ticced a lot of strange and potentially inflammatory things in the airport and on the plane, but everyone was fantastic – security staff, crew, and other passengers.…

This morning I had a ‘ticcing fit’ while I was having a shower. I managed to turn the water off but I was stuck in the bath for a while before I could get the bath lift to make me level with the edge.…

A while back my friend Laura Page, a freelance photographer and journalist, interviewed me about having Tourettes and my life as a superhero. She had some interest in her piece but it all went quiet and I didn’t hear anymore…

…until this morning.…

Since last September I’ve had a carer from an agency every morning and evening, and for the last seven months it’s been the same person. Last week, out of the blue, this changed and each visit now is from a different person.…

Friday the 13th got off to an ominous start when I had an extra long ‘ticcing fit’ in the early hours of the morning. Thankfully this didn’t turn out to be a theme for the day. That was robots.

It was the last day of our Easter playscheme at the playground where I work.…

I wrote recently about one of the many tic-filled messages I’ve left for Laura on her voicemail. When I called her today she answered, so I didn’t need to leave a message, but the first thing I said was, “I’m a prostitute.”…

Since my ‘ticcing fits’ intensified six months ago I’ve spent very little time completely on my own. I have to have someone with me to make sure I’m safe, and while this means I get to spend time with lots of different people, I sometimes miss being alone.…
