Fitting In

This evening Leftwing Idiot and I went for a meal with some friends. We’d met them through other friends so don’t know them really well and this was the first time either of us had been to their house. They are lovely people so I knew my tics and ‘ticcing fits’ wouldn’t be a problem.

I did have a ‘fit’ while I was there. What struck me afterwards was how used to them Leftwing Idiot and I have become. A few weeks ago, when they began to happen, they were both frightening and upsetting. Now, we’re at a point where I can be having a fit on a sofa in a relative stranger’s house and still feel safe and secure. Leftwing Idiot simply followed the care plan routine and I listened to the conversation as it carried on around me.

I had a lovely evening. It would be easy at the moment just to stay at home or cut down on what I do, but with the right support and planning, these ‘fits’, like all my tics, can be managed.
