Yesterday afternoon London Mayor Boris Johnson visited one of the projects I work for to launch a new volunteering scheme. We have a big team of young volunteers who help run our go-kart track and we’ve got some funding from the Mayor’s office to extend this.…

Although it’s Sunday I was at work today because we had a big group of young volunteers who’d come to help out with some painting. At lunchtime I was sitting with a group of them who I hadn’t met before and they were very interested in the gloves I wear to protect my hands and chest from my banging tic.…

I injured my hand at some point while I was away and I was having it checked out earlier by a doctor I’d not met before. Fat Sister came with me. The doctor was very friendly and unfazed by Tourettes. He took my medical history and asked me some questions and then he said: “I assume you don’t work.”…

I suddenly realised this afternoon that I needed to go to the bank but, although it’s only five minutes away, the prospect of walking there filled me with dread. It’s not a day when I have support at work so I had to go by myself and  inevitably I kept dropping to the ground.…

During Easter playscheme a child I work with pinched one of my gloves and took it home. He’s been promising to return it ever since. Today, at last he did, freshly laundered by his mum.

We had a group of volunteers at work this morning. They’d left their office to come and do some physical outdoor work.

I have a support worker for two days a week but struggle to move around every day. Today wasn’t one of my support worker’s days, so I asked various volunteers for help when I needed it.…

Earlier I read about some comments made by Conservative MP Philip Davies that were so ridiculous that to start with I didn’t believe they were real. I was wrong. He was being accurately quoted:

“Given some of those people with a learning disability clearly, by definition, cannot be as productive in their work as somebody who has not got a disability of that nature, then it was inevitable given the employer was going to have to pay them both the same they were going to take on the person who was going to be more productive, less of a risk….…

This evening I’ve had three lovely interactions with children and young people being thoughtful, caring and considerate towards me.

At work I talked to a seven-year-old girl who I’d not met before. While we were saying hello and introducing ourselves I explained that I have Tourettes.…

I’ll be very busy both days this weekend because the organisation I work for is undertaking an ambitious and unusual project. We’re dismantling, moving and re-assembling a bolt-together Walter Segal building which would otherwise would have ended up in landfill. We got started today, helped by a large group of volunteers.…

I was working today, running the Saturday session at the adventure playground. At the end of the afternoon the children come together for a snack and a drink. They are used to my ‘biscuit’ tic but it confused and amused many of them this afternoon when I announced that they needed to come and sit down for biscuits.…
