I was late meeting a volunteer at work this evening so I didn’t think twice about taking my normal route through the park. But it was very dark and quiet and I felt a bit freaked out, so I called Laura. She reassured me and said, “I expect the advantage of your condition is that, a bit like with wasps, muggers are probably more scared of you than you are of them.”
I’m not sure if squawking would be much of a deterrent to a mugger, but talking to Laura made me feel braver.
When I’d made it safely out she said, “Don’t walk through dark parks alone, please.”
