Backstage In Biscuit Land

Today’s a landmark on the road to something very exciting that’s going to happen later in the year – this morning Leftwing Idiot and I registered a show for the 2014 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. It’s not just any old show, it’s a Touretteshero show and it’ll be called Backstage in Biscuit Land.

The show will build on some of the stories and ideas in my book Welcome to Biscuit Land. In it I introduce the extraordinary world Tourettes creates around me. Soon people will get to explore this strange land in more depth and come backstage for a guided tour.

The show itself doesn’t exist yet but I’m really looking forward to developing it over the coming months with Leftwing Idiot, Jolie our producer, and an amazing puppeteer and performer, Jess Mabel Jones, or as my tics have been calling her, ‘Chopin’.

It’ll be a solo show for two women. I’ll be sharing my perspective on life in Biscuit Land and Chopin will be helping me.

Predictably my tics have been claiming the show will be lots of other things:

“A production of Aladdin.”
“Belly dancing by a horse in a onesie.”
“A monologue about pickled onion crisps.”

What’s certain is that no two shows will ever be the same – having Tourettes means I’m neurologically incapable of staying on script, and that’s where the fun starts.

Look out for more on the show in the coming months. For the moment, though, all my attention and energy’s on We Forgot The Lot! the event we’re holding in partnership with Tate Britain on 12th April. If you haven’t booked your places yet, make sure you do it soon – they’re going fast!
