Waiting Room Highs
At the end of last year I wrote about being laughed at and mimicked while in a hospital waiting room. Today at the same hospital I had a completely different and very lovely experience chatting to two women who were also waiting.…

I’ve written a lot over the last year about my increasing pain and decreasing energy. I’ve shared my concerns about the impact on my work, but I’ve not talked about the adjustments we’ve been making so I can keep doing the job I love.…
At work today I had a ‘ticcing fit’. I lost all regular speech but my vocal tics continued. Much to my surprise and that of my colleagues a strange story emerged. Here’s my Tourettes-generated fable:
“There was a table and tortoise
The tortoise had a shell made of caves,
The table had a brain made of waves.…
I’ve had issues with my bladder for a long time, but just over a year ago they intensified. Since then I’ve been seeing a specialist neuro-urologist (neuro-uro), and with his help things have got a lot easier – particularly at night, largely thanks to using catheters at the end of each day to make sure my bladder gets a good empty.…

My chest-banging tic has been around for almost a decade. When it began, my chest bruised a lot and I tried loads of different ways of managing it. I tried restricting the movement of my arm, Habit Reversal Training and padding my chest, but in the end the most effective solution was to wear padded gloves.…
I’m excited to hand over today’s blog to my friend and voice researcher Sophie Meekings. Sophie’s supported Touretteshero in a number of ways, most recently by volunteering at our big inclusive event Brewing In Battersea. She’s here to let you know about an exciting project she’s about to start working on, and inviting you to get involved.…
My nineteen-month-old niece Bean can walk – she’s been able to since she was nine months old! Tonight, though, she decided to go back to crawling – not baby crawling but crawling aunty-style.
We’d been playing in her room on the first floor of her home, and when it was time for me to go I crawled to the stairs on my knees.…
Happy New Year! We’ve made it to the end of 2018. For the Touretteshero team the year’s been crammed full of activity, events, touring and TV. As with most years there have been some incredible highs, and some painful lows as well.…
I’ve been staying with Fat Sister, King Russell and their young daughter Bean over the last few days.
Bean has lots of Duplo building bricks – in fact they used to be Fat Sister’s and mine. As a child I loved building towers and this picture shows Fat Sister and me with a particularly impressive construction.…
I’ve just woken up in Fat Sister’s living room. As for many people, my bed last night was the family sofa. I haven’t travelled far, though – my own bed’s just across the road.
Also like for many people, this isn’t a time of year I find easy – sometimes it can be stressful or expensive, and often both!…
