We had a group of volunteers at work this morning. They’d left their office to come and do some physical outdoor work.

I have a support worker for two days a week but struggle to move around every day. Today wasn’t one of my support worker’s days, so I asked various volunteers for help when I needed it.…

Last night Leftwing Idiot and I went to the opening of Untold Stories, an art exhibition that Belle has some work in. It’s a fundraising event for the homelessness charity SHP and it’s hosted by Together, a mental health charity. The publicity says it, “Explores the idea that by listening to the hidden narratives of those who are socially excluded, we can move away from stereotypes to a more equal and inclusive society.”…

“Kiwi fried rice.”
“Jack Daniel’s and dogfood.”
“Pear and biscuit tart.”
“Cod liver oil teabags.”

If you read yesterday’s post you’ll have noticed my despondent mood. I felt worn out and fed up with my leg tics. After I’d written it, I decided to post on the Tourettes Action forum. I’ve responded to other people’s posts before but this is the first time I’d started off a new thread.…

Leftwing Idiot came round to the lair and Belle, who’s staying with me, cooked an amazing dinner.

Later, I went upstairs with Leftwing Idiot to get something. I’ve hardly been upstairs for weeks and he asked, “While we’re up here is there anything else you need?”…

Leftwing Idiot got back from Glastonbury this evening and I went for some food with him, Poppy, and our friend Belle who’s come to stay at the lair for a few days. I haven’t left since Saturday evening so it was a relief to be out, and to be with friends.…

Earlier I read about some comments made by Conservative MP Philip Davies that were so ridiculous that to start with I didn’t believe they were real. I was wrong. He was being accurately quoted:

“Given some of those people with a learning disability clearly, by definition, cannot be as productive in their work as somebody who has not got a disability of that nature, then it was inevitable given the employer was going to have to pay them both the same they were going to take on the person who was going to be more productive, less of a risk….…

I woke myself up abruptly early this morning when I ticced:

“I’ve wedged a sausage dog in my bum.”

This evening I’ve had three lovely interactions with children and young people being thoughtful, caring and considerate towards me.

At work I talked to a seven-year-old girl who I’d not met before. While we were saying hello and introducing ourselves I explained that I have Tourettes.…

I’ve written recently about how frequently I’m dropping to the floor, and how this is making getting about difficult. Most tics are rapid movements, but what’s unusual about this one is that I’m finding it difficult to get out of it independently.…
