This afternoon Ruth and I went for lunch with a family whose teenage son has Tourettes. His tics are similar in severity to mine and Ruth’s and although he’s met other people with Tourettes they’ve all had milder tics. I think it’s important to meet people whose experience is similar to your own.…

Fat Sister: Hello sarcastic Tourettes. I should’ve expected you.

The report from the physiotherapist who assessed me last week when I ended up in A&E arrived today. It detailed thoroughly what had happened and what had been done. The physio described my tics as Dystonic movements. I didn’t know what this meant so I’ve just looked it up online and this is what I learnt about the medical classification of motor tics and other involuntary movements:

Clonic tics are sudden jerks of a muscle or limb.…

Leftwing Idiot emailed me earlier. He’s uncovered a meaning for boska even if it is spelt differently than it was yesterday.

A new tic has established itself over the last few days. It’s not a real word, which as I’ve explained before, is unusual.

It sounds expressive though, and it ought to have a specific meaning, but I’ve ticced it in loads of contexts:

– when the bin bag split: “Bosca, Bosca Bosca!”…

I’ve written before about how Laura’s complained that she doesn’t have a good tic name. Her married surname is Wareing and on her hen do my tics re-named her soon-to-be sister-in-law, “Two arms Wareing.” Her family still call her “Two arms,” and I have to admit to a touch of pride when I hear it used.…

I have a new eye-rolling tic. Laura thinks it looks similar to the eye movements associated with people who have visual impairments. She’s named this new tic after the former Home Secretary. She calls it, “Blunkett Eyes.”

For the last couple of weeks my phone’s been playing up, I met Leftwing Idiot in town earlier and together we went to the Apple store to get it sorted out. Ruth had to do the same thing a couple of weeks ago and had a long, unpleasant wait.…

A few weeks ago I described how instead of saying ‘Ouch’ whenever I hurt myself I had started to tic, “Mystery.” This has now inexplicably evolved, and the new indication I’m in pain is, “Minty.”

‘Ouch’ has another relevance today with BBC Ouch’s controversial columnist Disability Bitch writing about disabled superheroes.…
