Last night Poppy and I decorated the Christmas tree in the Castle and this afternoon we had our end of year party at work – first for the kids and then for the staff. This evening I went into town with Poppy to do some Christmas shopping. I haven’t been using public transport much recently as my ‘ticcing fits’ are hard to manage in busy places. However, the cost of cabs has been mounting, and as we were near Stockwell station we decided to travel by tube.…

Last night my friend Ruth’s documentary aired on BBC3 and she was absolutely amazing – articulate, funny and charismatic – just as I’d expected. The documentary was both thoughtful and thought provoking.

Even though I write about living with Tourettes every day, I found seeing and hearing Ruth describe its challenges on screen difficult, and at the end it left me feeling inexplicably sad.…

Tonight at 9:00pm on BBC 3, my friend Ruth will be making her TV debut in a documentary about her life, her singing career and her Tourettes.

It’s called, ‘Tourettes I Swear I Can Sing’ which is a bit of a lazy title.…

It’s my parents ruby wedding anniversary, so King Russell, Fat Sister and I made the two hour drive back to where they live to celebrate with them and their friends. It was a lovely day but I found sitting in the car for that long quite a challenge, especially during my ‘ticcing fits’.…

I’ve had biting tics since I was a child. They come and go, but even when they’re not happening that often they’re lurking in the background. They often flare up when I’m particularly upset, excited, angry or even happy.

But though they can be triggered by strong emotions, they’re still just tics over which I have little or no control.…

In my emergency bag I carry a bottle of water with a sports cap, so that whenever I have a ‘ticcing fit’ whoever’s with me can squirt water into my mouth to help me swallow my medication. For the last few days we’ve been using an inferior model bottle – it’s a bit squishy.…

Poppy’s mum is staying with us at the castle for a few days and this afternoon we all went off with Leftwing Idiot and some other friends to a local pub for a Christmas Fair. While we were on our way there I had a ticcing fit in a busy street.…
