Loving Tourettes

I often come across comments about Tourettes online like:

“Why do people with Tourettes Syndrome say only bad things?”

or,

“Why don’t you get any cases of nice Tourettes?”

Well, my newest tic clearly shows that Tourettes can be nice: I’ve just started ticcing “I love you.”

It’s friendly but a bit confusing. If I were saying, ‘I hate you,’ I’d expect my family and friends to recognise it was a tic, and that I didn’t mean it. But with this new tic, sometimes I do love the people I’m saying it to, and while I haven’t chosen to say it, I don’t want them to disregard what I’m saying as being just a tic.

That said, I’m also randomly declaring my love to strangers, colleagues and a variety of inanimate objects.
