Late the other night I was having a ‘ticcing fit’ on my way back to the castle. My body was completely locked up and I couldn’t move – my eyes were open but all I could see was a small patch of cloudless night sky.…
I’ve written before about my occasionally strained relationship with autumn. I do love it, but sometimes in the past the season and I have got a bit too up close and personal, with me spending much of October and November picking leaves out of hair, twigs out of wheels, and washing muddy jumpers.…
Last night Will and I went to see Chris Thorpe’s acclaimed show Confirmation at the Battersea Arts Centre. It was amazing and very thought-provoking, and I urge you to go and see it if you can.
Besides the show there was something else exceptional about our evening – when we arrived, the cab driver took the idea of door-to-door service completely literally.…
Leftwing Idiot and I were in town together last week. As we approached some charity collectors he said “Get your cloak of invisibility ready.” This is how we jokingly refer to the fact that when I’m out and about I very rarely get asked for donations, given flyers, or offered the chance to change my telecoms company.…
For three years, from when I moved into the castle, I’ve been happily chatting to, advising and teasing the lamp-post I can see from my bedroom window. A year and a day ago I wrote a blog post reflecting on how reassuring I found it that I was still doing this.…
Last night Chopin and I performed a shortened version of our show Backstage In Biscuit Land as part of an event organised by The London Brain Project. They work with artists, neuroscientists, and the general public on collaborative projects that explore the brain through the arts.…
Two years ago I wrote about “Fuck a sheep!” the phrase I started ticcing every time I heard a particular but very common phone message-alert tone.
Years later and I’m still shouting it every time I hear the tone, but now I’m definitely not alone.…
Today NESTA, a charity dedicated to supporting ideas that can help improve lives, together with the Government’s Office for Disability Issues and Innovate UK, an organisation for funding, supporting and connecting innovative businesses, all joined forces to launch the Inclusive Technology Prize.…
As well as being a part-time superhero and working one day a week for Touretteshero, for four days a week I work as a project coordinator for a children’s organisation in London. My role covers three main areas:
1) Fundraising
2) Supporting volunteers
3) Developing new projects and services
I’ve worked there for four years and in that time I’ve:
1) Secured over half a million pounds in funding for the organisation
2) Supported over three hundred regular volunteers
3) Helped triple the services the organisation provides
I’m telling you this now not because I want to brag but to give you a sense of the work I do and because yet another Conservative minister has suggested that some disabled people are “not worth” the minimum wage.…
