This morning I woke up early, for the second day in a row. Yesterday I had to get up and head off to catch a train while it was still dark. This morning I stayed in bed watching the sunrise, thinking about all the funny and interesting that had happened in the meantime.…

Last night was the first time I’d been to Leftwing Idiot’s in a week or so. I went into the kitchen, sat down, swivelled round to face the geranium – and my tics immediately addressed it:

“Oh! Geranium, you’ve matured!”

“Geranium, you look ravishing.”…

In addition to “Hedgehog” (now being said with an unusual American accent) and “Brian” (with a slight Welsh accent) I’ve got a new regular tic, “London”, pronounced with a strong cockney accent so it sounds like ‘Laandan.’ Everyone seems to enjoy this newcomer and it always makes me smile.…

A couple of years ago I wrote about the involuntary River Dance I used to do whenever Leftwing Idiot hummed a comedy jig. I’d forgotten about this, but it turned out this evening that he, and my body, hadn’t.

For no apparent reason I get very excited when I hear ‘R’s being rolled. This excitement hit record levels today when for the first time I rolled my own ‘R’. I overreacted in a huge way and hurled myself off the sofa before bouncing erratically on my knees, squealing with glee.…

Poppy and I were out in town this evening, I was in my cumbersome replacement wheelchair and Poppy was pushing me along with some considerable effort. Out of nowhere a man using a mobility scooter shot past. As he did so he grinned and called back, ‘Get a motorised one!’…

If my tics get over-excited about anything, it’s lists. I don’t know what it is about them, but given the slightest opportunity to reel off an array of thoughts and ideas, my tics take over and chaos ensues.

This can cause trouble when I’m genuinely trying to make a list of things at work or to give directions to someone, but for me, it’s one of the most hilarious and unexpected features of having Tourettes.…

The other day I touched on the frustration I’ve been feeling with my limited mobility, and how much I longed to go for a walk. My tics currently make this impossible as they make my legs move about all over the place.…

I frequently lose my speech when I have a ‘ticcing fit’, and when this happens I usually communicate by blinking – one blink for ‘Yes’, two blinks for ‘No’ and multiple blinks for ‘Ask a different question.’ It’s not a brilliantly reliable method of communication given how much I tic-blink anyway.…

It’s my fitiversary. Exactly a year ago today I woke up having a ‘ticcing fit’, and I’ve had at least two a day ever since. As I got dressed this morning I reached for a pair of tracksuit bottoms, but immediately decided against them because they didn’t seem suitable attire for a fitiversary.…
