Rapid Response

This morning I had my needs assessed by a social worker from the Physical Disabilities Team. She was friendly, listened carefully and took time to understand my situation. It was a relief to talk about the impact my tics have on my life with someone who could provide resources to help.

To my amazement, she got in touch a few hours later to tell me a temporary package of support had already been approved. To start with this will be provided by a care agency, but longer term I’ll get a personal budget and I’ll be able to employ a support worker to help me at home.

This evening I’ve been thinking about what to include in my support plan, just like Laurence Clark describes in this article. I hope the additional help will take a little bit of the pressure off my friends and family and give me the freedom to plan and make decisions.

I feel hopeful.
