It’s snowing again. I went out in trainers instead of boots, which was a mistake for two reasons: firstly my trainers aren’t waterproof. Secondly, and slightly more alarmingly, I’ve developed a leg-kicking tic when I’m walking which meant they kept flying off my feet.…

It’s freezing. Leftwing Idiot and I headed to Greenwich to see a film that someone at work had recommended. The film was sold out when we got there so we warmed up in a restaurant and had some noodles instead. We sat at a long shared table.…

I’m fed up with constantly moving about and I just want to be still. I was watching TV this evening and found not being able to sit quietly was really frustrating.

Some of my friends with Tourettes have tics that are less noticeable than mine, and we’ve talked before about the dilemma of deciding when to tell other people about having Tourettes. This isn’t a decision for me at the moment, as my tics are pretty hard to miss.…

Yesterday I described a big change that’s coming up in my working life. Today I realised there have also been some big changes elsewhere that I hadn’t noticed, in my attitude to my tics and their impact on me.

It’s been a frustrating day at work mainly because we don’t have enough space for the whole team so I’ve been moving between desks constantly. This is partly because the building is being redeveloped, with all the individual offices being transformed into one massive open plan space with space for 150 people.…

I’ve just noticed my t-shirt has a shiny distorted patch just below the neckline. It’s caused by one of my tics that makes me bang my chest repeatedly.

I’m hoping that this patch, buffed by my fist, will become as beautiful as the pieces of glass, tumbled and smoothed by the waves and sand, that you find on the beach.

I’ve just put the phone down after talking to Leftwing Idiot. I’d only just left his house for the five minute walk back to the lair when something happened that made me call him in floods of tears.

An ambulance driver who’d been going past me in slow traffic had mimicked me over and over again shouting from his window, and when he saw me looking upset, he laughed.…

One of my most frequent tics at the moment is “Dog” and its variants “Dog food” and “Dogging” – they’re occurring pretty much constantly.

This evening I was on a bendy bus and a woman got on with her partner and their dog.…
