Young Artist Development Programme - Artist Spotlight: Harry
Last year we worked with 18 brilliant disabled creatives on our Young Artist Development Programme (YADP). Their work is featured in a new zine called “Department for Wonder and Play”, more about this here. In addition to the digital and physical publication, we’re going to spotlight each artist on the blog so you can get a deeper insight into their work and process. Over to our Solidarity Coordinator Katie, who chatted to Harry, and his mum Ramandeep, who worked together to make his project Wonder of Play.

Harry started making videos a couple of years ago, and he likes to show them to everyone. He says it’s fun, because by making them he can make his friends and family laugh.
In this video, Wonder of Play, Harry gets up to a lot. From ‘breaking news’ segments about the different types of hats he owns, to wrestling competitions between John Cena and The Rock, to indoor sword-fighting – and, finally, a Bollywood dance routine.
Harry says:
I wanted people to see that I am a fun person, and I am creative. Making videos is the best way to express myself.
The process was collaborative. Harry’s mum, Ramandeep, was the camera person, and worked with Harry so he could edit the video.
Harry says:
My mum helped me using special video editing equipment on the computer. I enjoyed working with my mum as she is fun and lets me do what I want!
Learning how to edit videos was difficult at times, but he soon understood how to do it, and had fun choosing which routines to do, and which characters to be.
Harry says:
I have never been asked to do anything like this before and I am excited that lots of people will see my video. I really enjoyed making the films and will continue making more. I want to thank Jess and Katie for helping us make it all work. It’s been fun!
You can watch Harry’s full video at the bottom of the page.

In September last year, we were lucky enough to welcome Harry to our Biscuit Land cabaret at the Southbank Centre – where he made his debut dance performance with the same routine that’s in the video! We’re sure there’s more to come from Harry – so keep a look out for more from him.
