Outdoor Games

My sister brought round a house gift earlier.

She excitedly showed me the garden and beach games set she’s bought me. It means we now have everything we need to play tennis, badminton, volley ball and Frisbee. After making some enthusiastic noises, I said in a slightly confused tone, “You know I won’t be able to play most of those don’t you?”…

The Candle

I’ve been bullying inanimate objects again.

I went for some dinner at a local restaurant with Leftwing Idiot this evening. We were tired, hungry and very pleased to be eating at last. It’s a lovely cosy place, perfect for a relaxing meal.…

I Drive a Car Like This!

Leftwing Idiot, Fran and I were on a dull IT training course this morning. It’s a strange experience sitting in what feels like a classroom and having to listen to someone who sounds like a teacher talking about stuff that’s amazingly boring.…

Get the Massage

I’ve mentioned my support worker Fran’s playful approach to my tics before.

This continued today when she worked out that if she makes my arm tics over excited and then leans into me it’s possible to get a pretty good involuntary massage.…

Where Are You Lamp-post?

I stayed at Leftwing Idiot’s flat last night. I settled down in the familiar surroundings of his spare room and looked out of the window as I usually do. But a layer of thick cloud meant I didn’t get to see my old friend cartoon star.…

Comfortable shoes that I wear every day.

But I also have:

Wheelchair shoes.…

A PAT on your back

I had another long, distressing ticcing fit at work this afternoon. It was more severe than any I’ve had in a while. It happened while I was working at my desk and I suddenly found myself stuck on the floor underneath it.…

Roll On

I had lunch with Leftwing Idiot and Sophie in the park today. We sat on a small hill and enjoyed a long-awaited glimpse of sunshine. During lunch I started having a ticcing fit and it turned out to be quite a long one.…

Hitch Hiker

I popped to the Post Office this afternoon in my recently improved wheelchair. As I queued with Sophie a toddler waiting in line with his mum turned towards me. He looked at me, and the chair, beamed and then made a beeline for my lap.…

A Tic-Influenced Story

Last night Bunny and I went to an art event in East London where a diverse group of artists, actors, and musicians showed work they’d all made in response to a book called Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino. There were lots of interesting, interactive installations including maps you could draw, magnetic scrabble pieces to move about, a light that flashed in time with the music and compliment pegs you could write on and attach to people.…
