Captured

I’ve just returned to the lair after an amazing photo shoot. The photographer, Sam, was great. I felt surprisingly comfortable being photographed by him and I can’t wait to see the results. Posing with Tourettes is unpredictable and my plans for how I’ll look or move are often sabotaged by my tics.…

“Die!”

I keep ticcing, “Die!” which doesn’t come across as very friendly. It was bad enough this evening when I said it randomly to strangers in Kensington, but much worse earlier in the week when I said it to a four-year-old in the post office.…

Phone Nightmare

I had my phone nicked this evening. Leftwing Idiot calmly helped me call the phone company, the insurance company and the police. I spoke to the first two but he made the call to the police. This turned out to be a good move.…

Unappreciative Tourettes

I was having a drink with Leftwing Idiot earlier. We were relaxing in a beer garden enjoying the afternoon sun.

He was holding my hands to help prevent my tics from injuring me.

I suddenly looked at him across the table and said, “Bastard!”

At Liberty to Laugh

I’ve been at the Liberty Festival all day. It’s an annual event in Trafalgar Square that celebrates the contribution of deaf and disabled people to the arts. I went with a big group of friends.

I love the wide range of creative performances there, but I particularly look forward to comedy in the cabaret tent which is where that I spent much of the afternoon.…

Sienna Afternoon

Last week I got a call from Tourettes Action. They asked me if I’d be up for meeting an actress who’d been in touch with them. She’s preparing to play a character with Tourettes and wanted to meet someone living with it.…

Two Hundred Teenagers

Two of the projects I work for were spruced up today with the help of two hundred young volunteers who came to take part in a RockCorps event. These volunteers give four hours of their time in return for a ticket to a concert at the Royal Albert Hall.…

Boss

This afternoon I went to meet a friend who’s a TV news cameraman. He was working in Westminster but having a break between broadcasts. As we sat in Abingdon Green, a man came round the corner and I started shouting, “Dick, dick, dick!”…

Heading South

My “I’m a baby” tic has suddenly changed accent. It’s been northern up to now, maybe Sheffield. Now it’s more Essex. I’ve absolutely no idea why this has happened. It’s the small details that always remind me how strange living with Tourettes can be.

Notting Hill Carnival 2010

Part 1

It’s Bank Holiday Monday, it’s Carnival. I’m keen to go, but need to find someone to go with. Leftwing Idiot’s going – he loves Carnival and goes every year. I asked him last night if I could go with him but he wasn’t massively enthusiastic and said, “I don’t want to have to worry about you, or leave early.”…
