Your Mission

It’s been a beautifully hectic few days.

It started with a surprise on Tuesday morning, when an article about Touretteshero appeared in the Independent.

This got picked up by the BBC and the following day I recorded an interview for Radio 4’s Today Programme.…

I’m Cured!

Well not literally.

Following all the unexpected publicity over the last few days I’ve had loads of amazing messages of support. I’ve read incredible comments online, and many other disabled people (with and without Tourettes) have been in touch to share their experiences.…

We Broke The Internet!

I’ve been writing this blog for over two years now. In that time I’ve often wondered how many people have actually been reading my daily musings on living with Tourettes Syndrome.

This evening is the first time I’m fairly certain no one’s reading my blog.…

Today

Early this morning before work I headed across London to pre-record an interview for radio 4’s Today Programme that’s due to air tomorrow. The show’s producer got in touch after reading the article about Touretteshero in the Independent yesterday.

We had a chat about how they were going to manage my swearing tics.…

By The Power of Artwork

A while back my friend Laura Page, a freelance photographer and journalist, interviewed me about having Tourettes and my life as a superhero. She had some interest in her piece but it all went quiet and I didn’t hear anymore…

…until this morning.…

A Careless Change

Since last September I’ve had a carer from an agency every morning and evening, and for the last seven months it’s been the same person. Last week, out of the blue, this changed and each visit now is from a different person.…

A Moving Massage

Gemma, Leftwing Idiot’s friend who’s staying with him for a few days, recently completed a massage course. This afternoon she offered to give me a massage.

I had one once a long time ago, but that was before my tics were as severe as they are now, so I wasn’t sure how it would work with me moving about all over the place.…

Point Made!

Leftwing Idiot’s friend Gemma is staying with him at the moment. We were discussing Tourettes and he was telling her at length how creative my vocal tics could be.

My explanation was more succinct than his. I simply ticced, “They’re like a rattlesnake in a deckchair.”

We Are The Robots

Friday the 13th got off to an ominous start when I had an extra long ‘ticcing fit’ in the early hours of the morning. Thankfully this didn’t turn out to be a theme for the day. That was robots.

It was the last day of our Easter playscheme at the playground where I work.…

Echo, Echo, Echo

I have Echolalia, which means I often repeat things other people have said to me. This isn’t just associated with Tourettes, it occurs with other neurological conditions too, like autism for example.

There’s a boy at the playground where I work who has echolalia and when we’re in the same room our words often end up getting batted back and forth in a bizarre game of language ping pong.…
