A PAT on your back
I had another long, distressing ticcing fit at work this afternoon. It was more severe than any I’ve had in a while. It happened while I was working at my desk and I suddenly found myself stuck on the floor underneath it.…

I had lunch with Leftwing Idiot and Sophie in the park today. We sat on a small hill and enjoyed a long-awaited glimpse of sunshine. During lunch I started having a ticcing fit and it turned out to be quite a long one.…
I’ve described before how much worse my ‘ticcing fits’ get when I’m not well. They become more frequent and intense and I need constant care. This puts a huge additional pressure on whoever’s looking after me.
Last time this happened Leftwing Idiot wasn’t well either.…
Over the last seven days my amazing support team have offered their perspectives on Tourettes and on being carers. I’ve been touched by their thought-provoking, honest and funny accounts of their role in my care.

I first met Touretteshero several years ago, before she discovered her superhero powers.…
This is the second guest blog post to mark National Carers Week. This entry is written by my friend and support worker Fran.

I first met Touretteshero in 2000, long before her tics were obvious to anyone but herself and her family. Since then we’ve worked together on various projects supporting disabled children’s right to play and celebrating their creativity.…
Last year I wrote about seeing Mark Thomas’s stunning show Extreme Rambling at the Tricycle Theatre. I also described how the theatre manager asked me to move at the interval because someone in the audience had complained about my tics.
I ended up watching the rest of Mark’s brilliant performance through a glass window in the production box at the side of the stage, in tears.…
The last couple of days away with Claire and Ruth have been very relaxing. The peace and fresh air of the countryside has meant we’ve all been sleeping soundly and now, well-rested, we’re about to head back to the city.
Rather unexpectedly, the subject of sleep also came up during a ‘ticcing fit’ this afternoon.…
