Exceptional

Last night Will and I went to see Chris Thorpe’s acclaimed show Confirmation at the Battersea Arts Centre. It was amazing and very thought-provoking, and I urge you to go and see it if you can.

Besides the show there was something else exceptional about our evening – when we arrived, the cab driver took the idea of door-to-door service completely literally. Despite encouraging him not to he drove straight onto the pavement and stopped directly outside the Centre’s main entrance. Will and I were both stunned but he insisted it was fine because of the ‘exceptional circumstances,’ which, it turned out, were that I’m a wheelchair user.

We got out of the cab as quickly as possible and watched as the driver reversed off the pavement and back onto the road. It was certainly a dramatic start to the evening. Will said, ‘I don’t think I’ll ever be able to come here again without thinking about that dramatic entrance.’ I don’t think I will either.
