So You Want To Tell a Tourettes Joke?

A few days ago comedian Jimmy Carr apparently made a lazy Tourettes joke on TV linking Tourettes to uncontrollable swearing. This wasn’t the first time for Jimmy, and a number of other comedians have made similar jokes recently. I’ve written before about why jokes that misrepresent the link between swearing and Tourettes are unhelpful and not funny.

So now, rather than write about it all over again, I thought I’d make a flow chart to help anyone who’s thinking about telling a Tourettes joke avoid the pitfalls of thoughtless stereotypes.

This site is dedicated to showing the true humour of Tourettes and it’s much funnier than any of the tedious jokes that reinforce unhelpful myths. So please share this diagram to help comedians, celebrities and friends to do better and be funnier.
